Suffolk Horses - Temperament
Suffolk horses are famous with their easy disposition and good temperament. They are very obedient, determined, durable, and display a ready willingness to work. Some horses are still found working in the field. They are very devoted to the owner. Suffolk horses are fun to ride, but some people consider them to be too wide and very slow. This breed is very versatile, but, because of their feet, the horses should not be used on hard city streets when pulling large loads.
Suffolk Horses - Care
Suffolk horses are a rather easy to care for horse. Considering the weight and work performed, food consumption is very small. This breed can live on the amount of food that could have starved other dray horses. The Suffolk horse is used to remaining for hours without feed as was practiced on farms. When caring for a horse of this breed, you should only remember some general rules:
- There must be a constant supply of fresh water.
- Do not work immediately after feeding.
- Have teeth checked regularly.
- Feed according to bodyweight, age, condition, and workload.
- Measure feeds by weight, not volume.
- Make any changes to the diet gradual.
- Keep to a regular feeding routine.
- Keep feed and water containers clean.
- Feed adequate fiber: hay or grass.
- Ensure regular worming.
If you abide to these simple rules, your Suffolk horses will live long and happy lives.
